When I first Started Modeling, I did what most 3D Artist do, I modeled cars. I'm Glad that I did too, because it was good exercise to help me get to where i am at now.
One Day my Game Art Director told me he was tired of seeing my cars, and the industry is tired of looking at peoples portfolio's with just cars and they are no longer as impressive. He showed me the 3D models of Kevin Johnstone and told me, if I wanted to prove that i was good at Hard Surface modeling I should do Fan Art of some of his models and compare. I was Lucky enough to talk to Kevin and get his feedback and he was surprised at how close my replica was.

Here is a Glock that I modeled for fun, as of now it is still a work in progress, but on some rainy day I'll script it and play with it inside of UDK
